Documentary film on the First ecologists
Directed by Franck Vogel and Benoit Ségur (France Télévision, Gédéon programmes, 2011)
This documentary tells the story of a community that has lived in complete harmony with nature for over 500 years in the heart of the Thar Desert. The Bishnoi will go so far as to sacrifice their own lives to protect the wildlife and the trees. Every year, they set aside 10% of their harvest for wild animals, and the women will even nurse orphaned fawns whose mothers have been killed by poachers or stray dogs. What is the reason behind such unwavering devotion? In a country experiencing rapid economic growth, where the environment is far from being a priority, how are they perceived? And how do they, in turn, view our modern world? By tracing the intersecting destinies of several Bishnoi community members, this film challenges us to consider humanity's place within the living world and our responsibility toward future generations.
Golden Phoenix Award 2011 and Terre Sauvage Prize 2013.

With climate change accelerating, the world will never be the same again, and we must learn to adapt and remain agile. In response to numerous requests, I have decided to refine a New Talk for businesses centered specifically on adapting to change, in which I present the Bishnoi Model, a framework that offers practical tools to help companies adjust.
To explore this even further, my new book Réveillez le Bishnoï qui est en vous (Awaken the Bishnoi Within You), published by L'éditeur à part, will be released in France on June 15, 2026, and will be available in all good bookshops. An English version will also be published soon. Stay tuned!
Ecologists since the 15th century, the Bishnois of Rajasthan, India have made wildlife and environment protection their life’s work. In a world where environmental issues are ever more pressing, the age-old Bishnoi traditions can certainly teach us something.
Since the 15th century, the Bishnois have highly respected women. The founder, guru Jambheshwar, created 29 principles of which the first two are dedicated to preserving women’s good health : Maternity leave and Rest during their menstrual periods.
